Is there separate accommodation for domestic help?

No, there is no separate accommodation for domestic help. They will be charged as an extra guest.

Is parking available onsite or nearby? Is it chargeable or free?

Guests can park their vehicles in the parking zone at Dasturi, 40 minutes from Neral. It is a public car park and chargeable.

Is the villa suitable for a day picnic?

No, this place is not suitable for a day event or a picnic.

Can I reserve your place for special functions such as engagement ceremony, a small wedding ceremony or a birthday party, etc?

No, we do not allow reservations for occasions that require accommodating more than 12 people.

Can I reserve your Home for a few weeks for a Film or a Photo or an Advertisement shoot?

No, we do not allow reservations for photo shoots or other occasions.

Can I pay the caretaker some extra money and request the Cook to prepare seafood or mutton dishes for us?

Yes. In case you would like the caretaker to cook a special dish, you can pay him for the actuals and cooking, cleaning fee on site, in cash. Please note that this will be subject to availability of ingredients. Fish and mutton preparations shall be charged extra, at actuals which is payable in cash to the caretaker onsite. Please inform in advance, to allow our caretaker to procure the same.

Is there an adequate drinking water supply? Do we need to carry our own Mineral Water bottles or are these readily available at your villa?

There is a steady water supply with drinking water being filtered through AquaGuard. Mineral water is available upon request and will be charged.

Is Alcohol allowed? Are there any corkage charges?

Yes, consumption of alcohol is permitted within limits. The Manor does provide ice cubes, an ice bucket, tongs and glassware. Snacks and other beverages can be provided upon request at an additional charge.

If it is a self-catering villa, would you be able to arrange for a cook? What kind of cooking facilities are available?

This is not a self-catering villa.

Are meals provided onsite? What are the charges?

We serve healthy, home-cooked meals at our home. Breakfast is complimentary. Payment for all meals needs to be made to the caretaker on site. Guests are requested to inform the same in advance so that our caretakers can procure the ingredients. Tea/Coffee will be served during breakfast and evening tea time. If you would like tea/coffee at any other time of the day, it can be arranged at an additional charge.

What is the type of cuisine served?

We offer authentic, home-fresh meals. We have a standard menu and our Care Team rep will help you craft the perfect combination once you have booked your stay. Please do share your meal preferences and dietary requirements, if any, when the team reaches out to you.

Is outside food allowed? Are we allowed to cook ourselves?

Outside food is not allowed. Guests are not allowed to access the kitchen. However, mothers of infants or small children will have limited access to boil milk or prepare their kids meals.

How do we reach your villa by public transport?

There are local trains between CST / Pune station to Nerul station (the closest railway station). From Nerul, shared cabs can be taken to Dasturi Car Park. Alternatively, there are MSRTC buses that run from Mumbai Central to Nerul. The nearest airport is the Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport, Mumbai.

Are stag groups allowed to book this home?

No. We do not allow stag groups to book this home.

How and when do I pay for the Security Deposit and how and when is it returned to me?

Security deposit is to be paid two days prior to check-in. If no damages are observed, the deposit will be returned during check-out itself or by NEFT within 5 business days after check-out. Please Note: The Security Deposit is subject to change depending upon the number of nights and the group size. Please check with your holiday advisor at the time of booking.

How many extra mattresses can be provided?

4 extra mattresses can be provided onsite. Our home has adequate bed sheets, blankets, and pillows for extra bedding.

What type of beds, mattresses do you have?

Out of the four rooms, one room has a king size bed and the other three contain queen size beds. All of our beds are antique poster beds and the bed sheets are changed every third day. Kindly refrain from hanging wet clothes over the bedsteads.

Do you provide toiletries and bath towels?

Yes, we provide both toiletries and towels. Towels are replaced every third day.

Is the Home air-conditioned?

No, the home is not air conditioned. However, Matheran is pleasant for most part of the year.

Is there Internet/ 3G/ WiFi connection available onsite?

There's 10 MBPS WiFi in the home. 3G Network is available outside the house and in the verandah. Inside the house, connectivity is limited, depending on the network.

Does the villa face frequent power outages? Are there any invertors or gensets to address this issue?

Please note: Matheran may experiences load shedding by the MSEB. Please ask the caretaker prior to Check-In. The home is in a rural area of Maharashtra, powered by MSEB. In case of disruption of power due to fluctuation, we have a genset. However, the guests are requested to refrain from using ACs on genset. Our homes are environment friendly, and we push our guests to be too. Please use electricity optimally at all times. The pleasant monsoon and oncoming winter season do not require any extreme cooling appliances.

Do you have a problem with mosquitoes? How do you deal with it to make our stay more comfortable?

Yes, mosquitoes abound in the evening. As a precaution, mosquito nets have been installed over the windows and mosquito repellent coils & All Out repellent dispensers have been placed inside the house. Kindly keep the doors or any other unprotected openings closed in the evenings. Guests are also advised to carry along Odomos with them.

Is there a security guard / watchman?

No, the local caretaker and his family take care of security.

Are the premises monitored using CCTVs?

No, there are no CCTV cameras installed.

Can stray dogs enter the premises?

Yes, but they rarely do. Should a stray dog enter, inform the caretaker and he will address the issue.

Is the property properly fenced? Is there a boundary wall?

There is no concrete wall or fencing around the property but there is a lining of trees surrounding the villa.

If you're driving down from Mumbai, take the Mumbai-Pune Highway (NH-4) upto Chowk Village and turn onto Karjat road. Continue on the same road until you reach Dasturi Naka. Since Matheran is car-free zone, all vehicles will be halted at Dasturi Point. From there, guests can ride horseback, hire a hand-drawn cart or walk up to the Manor. Alternatively, there are local trains between CST / Pune station to Neral station (the closest railway station).

Is this home child-friendly?

Yes, there is lots of open space around the house and the verandah for kids to run around. Please note that running around or roughhousing inside the house is not permitted as a lot of heritage items have been placed within the rooms. The villa has been well-stocked with books and board games such as Monopoly, Snakes-n-Ladder, etc. While the kitchen is not accessible to guests, mothers can avail of our Kid-friendly menu: Cornflakes, Bournvita milk and hot milk, provided advance notice is given. As Matheran has an abundance of monkeys, parents are advised to keep their children away. Kids should be cautioned against feeding or mocking the monkeys as monkey bites could be serious. First aid kits - stocked with Dettol, Band-Aid and over-the-counter medicines - are available at the Manor. Emergency contact details are listed with the caretaker and on the Matheran Tourist Information Brochure.

Is this home senior citizen friendly?

Having been constructed on a raised plinth, there is a 10-step staircase leading up to the Manor with railing support. Once you enter, all rooms are on the same level without any internal steps. All bedrooms have private bathrooms, easy to access at night without any supervision. Upon special request, our caretakers can prepare Low Salt/ Low Spice/ Low Fat/ Low Sugar for senior citizens. Please note that since Matheran is a no-vehicle zone, internal travel in Matheran will be done over foot, horse or a hand-drawn cart. In case of a medical emergency, the caretaker has the numbers for doctor-on-call or ambulance service-on-call. These numbers are also enlisted on the Tourist Information Brochure placed in the rooms. Please note that Air and Road Ambulance Services are allowed in Matheran.

Is the villa wheelchair accessible?

No. The house has been constructed on a raised plinth and is accessed by climbing a flight of stairs containing more than 10 steps.

Is the place pet-friendly?

No, this house is not pet friendly. Pets are not allowed in the pool.

What can we do for fun around the property?

Matheran is known for its vantage lookout points and tourist spots like Charlotte Lake, Louisa Point, One Tree Hill Point, Matheran Observatory and Lord Nowroji Garden. You can trek to and organize picnics at some of these spots. In addition, there are paragliding schools and a zip-lining point nearby. One can also visit the local bazaar which is 1.5 kms from the property for leather products, chikkis etc.

Is there a pool and what's the depth/ length of the pool?

There are no pool facilities at this villa.

Is there a beach close by and is it clean and safe?

There is no beach close to the property.

Are there water bodies nearby (such as a pond/ river/ lake etc)?

Charlotte Lake, the principal source of water for Matheran is a 10 minute walk from the house. This lake is a major tourist spot, especially for families.
